With more than 100 volunteers providing 3,400 hours of direct service a year, volunteers play a vital role in the day-to-day operations of The Neighbour Centre. The Centre was founded, and continues to operate, because of dedicated volunteers. Their commitment allows the Centre to provide high caliber support for neighbours impacted by homelessness and poverty.
There are many opportunities to get involved at The Neighbour Centre, such as at our:
Resource Centre: Assist staff in maintaining a positive environment, delivering services such as snacks, showers, laundry service, and donation distribution.
Open Door Program: Provide one-on-one mentorship to former inmates in their transition from prison back to the community.
Dinner Club: Work alongside other neighbours to prepare, cook, and eat a meal, together -helping engage others in healthy relationships and community.
Support Groups: Attend one of our support groups and offer encouragement, accountability, and support as neighbours work to build, and sustain, a healthy life.
Other: Do you have a profession or skillset that could be of use at the Centre, let us know! The Centre is always looking for more ways to connect and help neighbours, such as offering musical jam nights or haircuts.
“Sitting with a person’s foot in your lap often lends itself to someone opening up, sharing their hurts and aspirations. Listening to them, letting them know we care – it can give them hope.”
– Volunteer Luella, one of several volunteer nurses at the Centre’s Foot Care Clinic
